You are invited to participate in a new national project entitled, “The Call of Conscience: Promoting Justice, Peace, Healthy Human Development, and the Prevention of Violence.” You can learn more about this intervention by reviewing the information presented below.
Given the role that counselor educators, practitioners, students and other allied health-care professionals can play in effectively addressing and preventing various forms of violence in our society, the “Call of Conscience” – a series of free webinars, electronic town hall meetings, and community organizing endeavors – will be launched on late Wednesday September 28, 2016 to address the following.
Simply stated, “The Call of Conscience” project is intentionally aimed at stimulating positive connections and join in related actions to promote a greater level of justice, peace, healthy human development, and prevent violence in our society. While a broad range of violent actions and policies will be the focus of this social justice advocacy initiative, particular attention will be directed to various factors that fuel the sort of gun violence resulting in the shooting and deaths of many persons, particularly unarmed African American and Latino males, as well as an increasing number of police officers in our country.
Objectives of the Call of Conscience
It is generally known that many people have an interest in volunteering time and energy to promote healthy human development by stimulating a greater level of justice, peace, and the reduction of various forms of violence in our society. One of the barriers that contribute to the failure of many people from linking their interests to action is that many of persons simply do not know about existing organizations, agencies, and projects currently being implemented in their local communities and/or their states to promote justice, peace, and healthy human development.
Once individuals learn about these existing agencies/organizations/projects, many are motivated to take the next step by getting involved as volunteers in various community and/or state-wide projects to achieve the above stated goal.
With this backdrop in mind, the following objectives represent key ways the Call of Conscience project will used to achieve the primary goal of promoting justice, peace, healthy human development and reducing various forms of violence in the process.
Objective #1: The Call of Conscience project will offer free webinars/electronic town hall meetings/community-professional organizing opportunities that help to clarify not only the problem of gun violence in our society, but to discuss the inter-relationship between gun violence and numerous other injustices in our society.
In doing so, the free webinars/electronic town hall meetings/community-professional development opportunities will explore other factors known to directly or indirectly contribute to much of the violence occurring in our nation. These factors include but are not limited to exploring the impact economic injustices, racial tensions, domestic violence, within-group racial violence, environmental injustice, racial/ethnic health-care injustices, school bullying, the racial/ethnic school achievement gap, violence against gay-lesbian-bisexual-transgender persons, abuse of elderly persons, and the violent injustices that characterize our nation’s prison industrial system to name a few .
Objective #2: The free Call of Conscience webinars/electronic town hall meetings/community-professional organizing efforts sponsored by the Social Justice Creations Website Inc. will increase participants’ knowledge of various organizations/agencies currently operational in local communities, state-wide initiatives, and national organizations/endeavors all of which are actively involved in promoting justice, peace, and the reduction of gun violence and other forms of interpersonal aggression in our society.
Objective #3: The Call of Conscience project will track the number of persons participating in the free webinars/electronic town hall meetings, who choose to volunteer whatever time they can to work with specific organizations/agencies/ religious communities in their local communities, in the state in which they work and live, or in support of national organizations/projects that address the above stated issues.
Objective #4: The Call of Conscience project will provide consultation and related resources to individuals interested in developing and implementing new peace and justice interventions in their local communities to foster healthy human development.
Objective #5: The Call of Conscience project will provide persons participating in the free webinars/electronic town hall meetings with supporting materials and resources. These resources include but are not limited to information about national organizations whose aim is to promote a greater level of justice, peace, healthy human development, and a reduction of violence in its various forms.
